Cam Scholey Compassionate Listening https://www.compassionatelistening.org/

Cam Scholey was born and raised in Toronto Canada. Cam recently retired from a career of teaching university and coaching students. He is now a Compassionate Listening Facilitator whose purpose is to help people to heal, develop, and move forward in their lives.
Also a professional writer, Cam is the author of This Happy Home, a compelling memoir of childhood violence, hardship, instability, and kindness (available on Amazon).
Talking Points:
(1) I’m trying to grow a community that wants to listen better and promote kindness. As a Compassionate Listening Facilitator, I reach people by talking and giving many immersive workshops. Everyone seems on edge and the world needs a hug right now. I decided Compassionate Listening is the best and most practical way to “give hugs” and spread my healing message and move people forward through healing, forgiveness, and compassion for self and others.
Listening is a gift, and the effort to really understand the people we care about is an investment that pays back many times over. We do this primarily by listening for the facts, feelings and values people are sharing, gaining insights this way and getting to the root cause of their suffering. Attentive silence is key, and is something we’re all capable of if we lean into it.
In Compassionate Listening, we focus on making the other person feel heard and more empowered, and the benefits to the listener are just as rich and rewarding. The process results in much more compassion, forgiveness, healing, and mending of broken relationships. When we show people that we truly care, they begin caring more for us.
Compassionate Listening was instrumental in my healing process (re: childhood trauma in memoir), and I want to share my story and help others get better at giving the gift of Compassionate Listening. No skills are required! Compassionate Listening helps people become more focused, calm, and positive.
(2) I’m now delivering workshops on giving good feedback. Like listening, giving good feedback is important in relationships and more than anything it’s just the right thing to do. I follow the Sufi Gates (is it true/kind/necessary/helpful? – must be all four).
Good feedback is like a GPS to the desired state (i.e. “feedforward”). It doesn’t focus on what’s happened (in the rearview mirror).
Olivia S Benson Olivia S. Benson | About Olivia

It took me decades to break free from the results of the challenges I faced in my childhood. Now, I have accepted that as difficult and ugly as the challenges were, they served to help me become the person I am today. It is not always easy to accept, but as I say often, I wouldn’t change anything if these experiences were what was required to make me the person I am today.
The challenges sent me in search of answers about everything, including the meaning and purpose of life. They ultimately led me to understand the importance of forgiveness in liberating myself from the weight of the past. They also led me to understand I am a spiritual being, always connected to my spiritual identity, here to learn lessons while I am here on the planet.
I want to assure you there is a way to heal from your life challenges. Whether, like me, you suffered as a result of the absence of your father or any of the other millions of challenges we can face as humans on the planet, my journey is a testament to the fact that you can overcome your trials and change your life.
