Aspiration Academy with Founder Bob Barnes

Aspiration Academy is a nonprofit organization comprised of citizens who care about the education of children in our community. We recognize the excellence of Brevard Public Schools. In defense of the public schools, they cannot compensate for the opportunities in life that are missed by lower-income students. These opportunities can have a dramatic effect on future growth and success.

SEE OUR PAGE ON WHY WE MENTOR STUDENTS FROM LOW-INCOME FAMILIES – www.AspirationAcademy.org

From an educational standpoint we strive to cultivate students with above grade level development through mentoring and coaching similar to what a young athlete showing superior athletic prowess can expect. Students at Aspiration Academy will be nurtured, challenged, and inspired to reach their potential.

IN ADDITION TO THE BASIC CURRICULUM, CHILDREN ENROLLED AT ASPIRATION ACADEMY WILL PARTICIPATE IN ONE OR MORE OF THE FOLLOWING SPECIAL GROUPS TO ENHANCE THEIR LEARNING EXPERIENCE

A group for reading: (e.g. The Reading Society)

  • Read all or parts of books to children and then have them read to the rest of the class or an individual mentor.
  • Each child will get a copy of the book that was highlighted that week.

A group for individual pride(e.g. The Pride Society)

  • Each background of attendees will be talked about in positive terms.
  • Have guest speakers from different religions and/or ethnic groups with emphasis on the children’s religious and/or ethnic groups.

A group for Black and Hispanic history(e.g. The History Society)

  • Mentors will relate the “story” of prominent Blacks and Hispanics in America.
  • Local Black and Hispanic community leaders will relate their “story” and ultimate success.

A group for patriotism and history of the United States(e.g. The Patriotism Society)

  • Support will be provided by books that show the importance and influence of Black and Hispanic people in America’s history, the Hillsdale College patriotic courses adopted for children, and the Rush Revere American History book collection.

A group for dreaming(e.g. The Dream Society)

  • Each child will be able to tell of their dreams for the future with the rest of the group providing commentary, insights, support, and suggestions.
  • Follow-up support will be provided by teachers and/or volunteers to assist in the dreams of each child.
  • Reading and math will be emphasized as being necessary to fulfill most dreams.

A group for volunteering(e.g. The Helping Hand Society)

  • Age-appropriate projects will be developed so that students will find the joy of being able to help others.
