Eric Henderson Author Teachings from State U: What I learned In State Prison

Born the fifth child of six in Kansas City, MO, Eric has always considered his place in the family as the middle child, or the weird one, due to the age difference between his siblings. He best describes himself as “if my family went right, I went left ” but was also considered by his family as the one who could talk to anyone.

Eric pursued various artistic endeavors throughout his life, such as music, acting, and writing. He is an accomplished musician, being a multi-instrumentalist, performed in plays in high school and college, and started writing stories as early as 4th grade.

His writing style is minimal descriptive, which allows the reader to use their own imagination to envision the world that he writes about.

Eric currently resides in Colorado with his wife, stepson, and grandson, and considers his new home state as “the most creative motivator I have ever encountered.”

Boys & Girls Club of Central Florida

Our mission is to inspire and enable all young people, especially those from disadvantaged circumstances, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens.

At our 40 Clubs in 6 counties, we serve the children who need us the most. Our Clubs are located in neighborhoods that, on average, rank at the 12th percentile for household income and the 71st percentile for incarceration rates. Our Club families pay either nothing or a nominal fee for their children to attend. By providing our Club members with academic support, extracurricular opportunities and positive adult role models, we aim to break the cycle of poverty for future generations.

We were lucky enough to have Rod Chapman, Director and 5 Young people representing to speak about how the Boys & Girls Club of Central Florida and all the great things they are doing to help the youth of Florida.
